Discover the Magic of Westport Winery Garden Resort
If you're seeking an enchanting destination on the central coast of Washington State, Westport Winery Garden Resort is a must-visit. We recently had the most amazing stay, in our motorhome, at this Harvest Host location. Westport Winery far and away exceeded anything we could have imagined.
Westport Washington is a small fishing community, located on a peninsula on the south side of the entrance to Grays Harbor from the Pacific Ocean. Westport Winery and Garden Resort is nestled between Westport and Aberdeen and is a true gem. There is something for everyone to enjoy on the property including a winery, distillery, award-winning restaurant, the International Mermaid Museum, and sprawling gardens adorned with art installation. The proximity of the property to the sea, and the winery owners’ ties to the ocean, both in Washington and Lahaina, Hawaii, lends to the nautical theme found throughout.
Upon our arrival, we entered through a private driveway at the back of the property, leading us to the designated Harvest Host RV parking area. The four spacious RV spots each featured flat, compacted gravel pads and perfectly manicured “patios” with tables, chairs, and fire pits. The pull-through space was ideal for our one-night stay, eliminating the need to unhook our towed vehicle. A private gate near the RV parking allowed easy access to the grounds.
After getting settled, we headed to the front of the property to visit the winery. They have earned their reputation, being named the 2022 Washington Winery of the Year. Their extensive wine selection includes an array of reds, whites, and specialty blends that showcase the rich flavors of the Pacific Northwest. The tasting room welcomed us with a bar for wine and spirits tastings and a gift shop filled with gourmet items like handcrafted, flavored olive oils, balsamic vinegars, chocolates, caramels, and fudge. We enjoyed a relaxed tasting, with a lovely guide, sampling ten exceptional red wines—five for each of us to share. Each wine had a unique and artistic label, and every label has a cool story behind it. The winery’s commitment to excellence is evident in every bottle.
After our tasting, we returned to our motorhome for a quiet night. We barbequed, ate outside, and lingered by the fire until it was dark—past 10:00 pm in the summer. The next morning, we strolled around the grounds before they opened to the public. The property was massive, rivaling some of the most beautiful botanical gardens we’ve visited. Art installations, ranging from metal sculptures to mosaic pieces, wood, stone, and topiaries, dotted the garden. Large signs throughout featured images of wine bottle labels, quotes, and anecdotes about the depictions. (con't below)
After our morning stroll, we visited the International Mermaid Museum. This museum celebrates mermaid legends from around the world while promoting ocean conservation, making it a fascinating stop for both children and adults.
From there, we returned to the tasting room to enjoy a flight of spirits from Ocean's Daughter Distillery. They offer an impressive selection of spirits including handcrafted vodka, gin, whiskey, rum, agave and liqueurs. The distillery's unique creations are perfect for sipping neat or mixing into creative cocktails. The beautifully designed labels, many with a mermaid theme, added to the charm and a portion of the proceeds benefit the museum as a philanthropic approach.
We concluded our incredible visit with lunch outside on the patio, at their award-winning restaurant, Sea Glass Grill. They offered a diverse menu of high quality, delicious food. A must-try is their homemade clam chowder!
